Before Gia B. Gee June had never fit a baby! The making of this Christening gown allowed me to professionally experiment while articulating the intricacies of a custom gown for a little tyke! To execute Gia B's gown I carefully shaved off slices of her Mama's wedding dress and sewed them at the dresses' bib and used them as the background for Gia's headband and blush flower at the dresses' waist.
Originally, we were going to make the dress entirely out of Mom's wedding dress. But, like many former Bride's, Mom loved her dress and wasn't all together ready for it to be cut up; Especially, considering that Miss Gia will one day be a Bride herself and might like to have use of it. To maintain the integrity of Mom's dress as an heirloom we kept it together and created a second heirloom, using it's parts, in Gia's Christening gown!
In the above picture Gia's Daddy is hidden behind the backdrop; which, is Mom's wedding dress while Mom is helping to keep Gia entertained (after a nap) for pictures at the Ithaca Boat House! Owner of IBH, Peggy, supplied the antique props and rocking chair!
