Art Deco Marries Military: A Fashion Inspiration Shoot

In the beginning of the Summer I was approached to be the Fashion Director for a new Finger Lakes startup: CNY is host to wedding expos and showcases in the Finger Lakes region.  As a new startup, with conscientious funding, and multiple shows it was necessary to be careful in the promotional planning so as to get mileage out of the images across towns, cities, and venues in Central New York.

To achieve this we worked with small businesses, independently owned and operated who had a proven tract record for working with other small businesses and promoting American Made product.  It was important, being a Finger Lakes startup for us to shoot on one of our many lake fronts among stone.  We found Clift Park in Skaneateles, NY a military park .

Upon finding the park we asked Loganne, a Gee June muse, to model with her husband.  Loganne and Will are Military Veterans who retired from the United States Air Force.  Will, would be wearing his Air Force tux and Loganne would be wearing our 1920's hand embroidered, Parisian kimono from the Gee June Vintage Archive in 100% Silk, color Military Royal/Navy blue to match her Groom.

The kimono is a special piece to us in that it was made during the Art Deco era.  Art Deco: The Golden Age of Illustration and Graphic Design was first seen in pre-WWI France.  Art Deco became popular in the 1920's and '30's as it represented exuberance, glamour, luxury and faith in sociological and technological progress.  Decoration and motifs were important to Art Deco. Fashion illustrations of the time illustrate women in body conscious clothing of fine materials, hand beading, and richly crafted fascinators dripping in jewelry.  Art Deco is so timeless because it combines contradictory modernist styles with fine craftsmanship.

Fine Craftsmanship was an important theme in our shoot's pieces.  Imagine Gallery provided us with jewelry made from a plethora of Independent American Goldsmiths, Designers, and Craftsmen.  The Shawl from Fibers was finely printed on 100% Silk, made in Italy and our head pieces were hand sewn in Ithaca.  Please scroll down for a full list of participants, sponsors, and businesses' who participated in's fashion inspiration shoot.
